Poetic: Preview of the conept

My idea is to create a photo journal that is a guide for the perfect date featuring the "birdie trio" a.k.a. the shuttlecocks. I want to refer to the couple using this guide as lovebirds (the graphic will be two shuttlecocks together kissing). I hope I get to do this, because I am excited to! I want to include a few things that would facilitate a wonderful date experience such as; a wine opener, a flower, a picnic clothe, amongst other things...

This is how looks after work day in studio, starting with the cover design then initial spread...

The Persuasive: Revisions

So...I set out this weekend to find the perfect spot for my candles. For some reason I kept photographing them in grass, which looked nice. It seemed like a cop-out though. I walked by the inda department and saw this beautiful window sill. It had distressed wood and fabric behind the glass, and was perfect!

The Persuasive I
I decided to show my candle's label from the front and the back. I also wanted to show what you could do with the jar once the candle was all gone. yay.
Showing them next to my hand for a size comparison, also showing off the features of the match box.
macro shot of the warning label on the bottom of the candle.
This is the story that accompanies each candle on the backside of the match book.

This is a photograph of the magazine ad in context.
The internet banner for the most part stayed the same, since people responded positively to it.
I changed the image on my website to the new images. I also made the navigation bar more obvious, and the corners that are holding the image more subtle.

Persuasive: Web and Magazine Ads

I started making the magazine advertisement. I wanted to use the patterns that I had created and I put the image inside of this "country scrapbook" theme. It may seem corny, but I know that my audience would love it.
I kept through with the green patterned theme. I wanted their too be an emotional reference to light and airy. This will allude to the idea of simplicity.
I want the viewer to see a tag line which is "simply live". This also goes along the lines of the clean and airy theme that promotes the idea of simplicity.

The Persuasive: Making Some Candles!

Here is an update with my new labeling system!
I tried out some new variations on the color palette as well at some patterning for texture. The "story" is going to go on the back of the label that can be dis-attached after the product is purchased. The warning label will be stuck on the bottom and cannot be taken away. I also started to think about how minimal packaging can be, but how powerful that is. Every design move is that much more important and impactful. If I were to put these jars into boxes that would just create more waste. I am still very fond of the idea that these unique glasses are speaking for themselves. I am only facilitating their purchase, with the hope that the jars aren't just disposed of after the candle is gone.

This is a basket that I am using for a part of my collection website. They were meant for each other...

The Persuasive: Inspiration & cute things

So, thank you Kidwell for showing me these cute little things. I love the idea of a tag for my candles. The tags alone are an item that can be reused (of course if they are cute enough). I am starting to think that the tag in the contour of my current "label" will be an interesting route to start taking. This should be fun... I also realized the correct "verbage" for my glass jars. I am re-claiming old jars and using them again. They are not re-cycled or re-used. re-claimed. amen.
here is more of this website/blog. Its pretty awesome, if you like looking at other peoples wedding ephemera.

The Persuasive: Process and Application

I started to develop some boxes to hold the mason jars, but then I realized that the real joy in this brand of candles are the mason jars themselves. Why would I hide them? The patterning that I have started to develop is something I want to keep however. I am working on incorporating that into the labels.

This is my new color palette for the three scents which are; sage, lavender, and violet. I have three aspects which are; the label, the warning label, and the story label. These colors are much better looking in print. The colors above printed very saturated and gross.

I started to implement this labeling structure today, just quick reference points. I realized that the side label is too large. The colors were a little weird as well.

The Persuasive: Digital Sketches and Color Palette

These are some initial thoughts for how I want this product to look. I will scan in my hand sketches soon as well! I am wanting all of the jars that the candles are in, to be recycled mason jars that aren't used any more. I will be creating three different sizes of boxes to hold all of the varying sizes of mason jars that I can find. Since all of the jars will be different and have their own personality I am deciding that I want to design three sets of labels that can be put on the three different sized boxes. The labels will reveal that each glass jar is different and special. These label designs are just a start, and the color palette was taken directly from my visual research board, it too is just a starting point.
